We Need YOU!

The Limington Youth League needs more volunteers.  Over the last year, the Youth League has added several volunteer positions to the organization.  We now have an Equipment Manager and a Fundraising Committee, but we still need more volunteers to help out with field maintenance and the snack shack.

We are looking for a dedicated group of individuals to form a building and grounds committee.  This committee would be responsible for the care and maintenance of the playing field(s), buildings, and grounds, as well as making recommendations for improvements in the buildings and grounds.

We are also looking for a Snack Shack manager.  This person would be responsible for scheduling volunteers to work in the snack shack during games, maintaining an inventory of food and supplies, maintaining the building and equipment, and making recommendations to the board for improvements.

If you are interested in volunteering in one of these positions, please contact Joe Colby at 637-2503 or stop by the next Limington Youth League Board meeting on Monday, October 18, at 7:00 p.m. at the Old Town Hall….but if you can’t make this one, we meet the 3rd Monday of every month.

Don’t miss this opportunity to volunteer with one of the most fun and exciting groups in town.  The youth of Limington need you!!  The Limington Youth League needs fresh ideas and great people in order to serve the youth of Limington better.

Come on, what are you waiting for?  Sign up now!!

Fundraising News

As a newly formed group, the Fundraising Committee has focused on evaluation of current money making opportunities as well as creating several opportunities to raise funds to benefit the kids in the Youth League.  Our goals include increasing awareness and community involvement with the Youth League as well as raising funds for the kids.

Here are our upcoming events…

¨      A Hunter’s Breakfast at the Limington Town Hall on November 6

¨      A Crafts Table at the HB Emery Christmas Craft Fair

¨      A Rummage and Bake Sale at Baseball/Softball sign-ups

Being our 1st Hunter’s breakfast, we are interested in any help and donations you can offer.  Currently, we need baked goods for the Hunter’s Breakfast as well as volunteers to cook and serve.  If you can help us, please contact Marie Hegarty at 637-3291 after 5pm.  Thank you.

Softball Season 2004

Well, we made it through another softball season. As always things started a little rough, but as they say, all’s well that ends well. Because of the small number of girls that signed up this year we only had two teams, 10U and 12U. The 10 and under team ended up being a young team for their division, with mostly 7, 8 and 9 year-olds. With some hard work and great coaching from Gary and Kim Rexrode, it turned out to be a very competitive team. The 12 and under team had a great year also. Their team had 10 wins and only 2 losses in the regular season, then went 2 and 2 in the Bonny Eagle Summer Softball League playoffs. Four of the girls were chosen for the BESS All Stars and their team placed fourth in the State tournament, which earned them an invitation to play at the regionals in Rhode Island.

In the 2005 season I’m hoping we can get enough girls to field teams in the 14 and under division as well as the 10U and 12U. It would be great if we could get enough older girls to field a 16U team. Many of Limington’s older girls have been playing for other towns because we haven’t had enough to field our own team. If you know them or any other girl who would like to play at one of those age groups, let me know.

Baseball Season 2004

The 2004 Baseball season proved to be a successful one. We had our very large T-ball team, coached by Erik West, Corey Harmon, Bob Axelsen, and Dave Langlois.  Thanks to everyone that helped with the T-ball team, the kids learned a great deal during this season and we look forward to seeing them next year and for many years to come.

We had 2 Prep teams coached by Todd and Carrie Hutchins and Karl Minehart and Carol Doughty.  The Prep teams made great progress throughout the year! In this division the kids have the opportunity to strengthen their skills and get them ready to move up to the Minors teams.

Our Minors team, coached by Dickie Morin and Troy Pride, was UNDEFEATED during the regular season! This is a great accomplishment and they deserve to be recognized! Our Majors team, coached by Brian Fox had a great season as well.  We do have a few boys that are now at the age where they are too old to play in the Little League Division, so we want to wish them the best of luck as they move up to the next level!

This was the first year Limington hosted All Star tournament games. We hosted 2 games and they were very successful!  I would like to thank EVERYONE for their hard work and dedication to our organization to make this possible, but I especially want to recognize Jacob Plummer for his hard work and commitment to building the announcer’s stand on Field 1.  Jacob was able to get the announcer’s stand built through fundraising, donations and volunteers as he strives toward his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.  We can’t thank you enough, Jacob, for your hard work and dedication!

I would also like to thank Jacob’s brother, Josiah Plummer for all of the volunteer hours he spent in the snack shack!

We are always looking for new kids to play as well as volunteers to coach, umpire work in the snack shack, etc.  We will begin registration for Baseball in March, 2005 and look forward to seeing you there.

Soccer News

We are just about half way through the soccer season, and although things seemed to start out a little slow, we are in full gear and the teams are doing great.  Even though registrations were slow in the beginning we ended up with 2 Senior teams (9-12 year olds) coached by Dickie Morin and Josh Salang, 1 Juniors team (7-8 year olds) coached by Becky Winslow and 2 Pee-wee teams (4-6 year olds) coached by Tim and Dawne-Marie Dunbar.  This is the first year that we have had our Pee-wee teams play games against other towns and that has been great.  The kids are loving it!

Our soccer banquet will be held October 29th at 6:00 at The Roost on Chicopee Road.
